Surviving during Rona

What makes a person want to volunteer? Is it for experience like interns, but there is paid internships so that still isn’t the same at all as volunteering. So what is it accolades, a pat on the back or a true desire to just help?
Well for myself and my children it is to help. We may not be essential workers or on the streets, but the pandemic is affecting us too and by helping we see our selves in those who benefit from whatever our volunteer moment is for that day.
Lately we have been volunteering with Thyme Well Spent Catering providing food for essential workers and the homeless. Each week brings new challenges like keeping food warm or needing more food the day of our deliveries, but at the end of the day we overcome.
We manage each week to help people amid the obstacles to doing what at the moment seems insurmountable. Yet, when earnest people are pushing forward to do the thing whatever that thing is its accomplished.
In the midst of the pandemic I'm still job hunting still trying to be the best me I can be inside and out.  These volunteer days give me something to look forward to and that selfish yet honest feeling of I helped!!! Childish sure, but still very real and ok to feel. Joy is joy.
I forgot to mention while I still flare after these days of volunteering I am able to focus outside my pain.  I lay there when its bad and I spend my time trying to figure out better ways to streamline our lunch system and how to get donations and more help. So my mind is occupied and I don't think on my pain cuz im otherwise mentally occupied  bam twofer!!!
